These are large antique and vintage area rugs: one-of-a-kind, handmade, and big enough to define a whole room instead of disappearing into it. Most were woven in the early 20th century and carry the depth of color, softened wool and honest wear that a new rug simply cannot fake.

Where a large antique rug belongs

  • Living rooms, with at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug.
  • Dining rooms, big enough that chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
  • Bedrooms, running under the bed with room to step out onto it on both sides.

How to choose the right size

Measure the room and leave roughly 12 to 18 inches of bare floor around the edges. Every listing shows the exact size in feet and inches, its approximate age, and close-up photos of the rug and its wear, so you know exactly what is coming.
