We'd like to thank them personally.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeet \u003cstrong\u003eBad Influence\u003c\/strong\u003e—an antique Persian Hamadan village rug measuring just 2'2\" × 3'9\" and somehow containing more personality than most entire rooms.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStart with the red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA saturated, unapologetic crimson field surrounds a huge ivory geometric medallion that looks less like something carefully drafted and more like something the weaver decided needed to exist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThen things get weird.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSeafoam turquoise. Dusty mint. Bubblegum pink. Burnt orange. Ivory. Chocolate brown. Charcoal. Little flashes of blue-green.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll of it packed into less than nine square feet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe central medallion is surrounded by angular flowers, paisleys, rosettes, tiny diamonds and beautifully strange little village motifs. It appears around the medallion, inside the floral motifs and throughout the borders, constantly colliding with pink and screaming red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd because this is an old village rug, nobody appears to have been particularly concerned with making everything behave.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLines wander.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFlowers mutate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eColors appear unexpectedly and then disappear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe medallion isn't interested in being perfectly symmetrical.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNeither are we.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is exactly why we hunt old rugs instead of commissioning new ones.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eCONDITION\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBad Influence has survived with a wonderfully substantial presence and the kind of age-related character we want from an antique village rug.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wool retains excellent visual depth and color, with areas of pile variation, handmade irregularity, and wear consistent with age. The ends and fringe show visible loss and irregularity, and there are areas where generations of use have left their mark.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd somehow the colors are still screaming.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat's the remarkable part.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter all these years, the turquoise is still turquoise. The pink is still pink.
